Sculpture: Musée du Louvre
|
The Musée du Louvre has always suffered from a kind of embarrassment of riches. On the surface, this translates to an amazing assortment of historical art on display for visitors, but it also hides a secret anxiety when you realize just how much time it would take to see it all if you were to give each exhibit two minutes to view and appreciate (or even one minute if you wanted to “rush” the experience). In reality, this means that no matter how many times I visit the museum, there’s always something I didn’t see or notice the last time I was there. Of course, I’ve seen the classic “must-sees” of the Louvre; everyone does that on their first time through. It’s only on the repeat visits that you start having time to pick out your favourites. Here are some of my favourite sculptures from the permanent collection on display at the museum. |
If you were to spend one minute each on just the 35,000 exhibited items, you’d need 24 days, 7 hours, and 20 minutes before you’d seen it all. |
